Paper Pumpkin is a monthly crafting subscription that is delivered right to your door.  Everything you need in a little orange box for a creative escape for only $20 per month (usually).  So that means, right now you can subscribe and get your first kit for $10!

As always, the project is a surprise.  I can’t say what exactly you get for that price but take a look at some past kits to see what kind of projects you can make.  Paper Pumpkin is a great way to get your feet wet in this fun hobby (try new products build your supplies), to stock up on handmade seasonal cards and gift items for giving and be assured you will have at least one fun creative escape each month!  Remember, projects are designed for the busy crafter in mind.  Much of the prep work is done for you, so even if you usually tell yourself that being creative doesn’t work for your because your life is too busy, I’m here to tell you THIS is the way to go!  If you have an hour you can sit and complete all the projects at once.  They will be ready to give at a moments notice.  Can’t fit in a 1 hour crafting escape?  No problem, 10 minutes is all it takes to sit with your little box and make one or two items (I find it takes just as long to make 2 of anything as it does one).  Wish to be even more creative, have a little extra time this month?  Then step outside the box, ditch the predesign project instructions and create something entirely different.  The choice is yours!

There is no commitment to continue after your first month.  If you find it isn’t for you, you can cancel anytime.  Although, I can’t imagine you would want to.

Tips

Tuesday Tip: DIY Pick Up Stick

Sometimes in paper crafting adding the smallest bits of bling can make all the difference to finish off a project.  However, getting them to cooperate may some times be a bit fussy!

Today I want to share a tip on how you can make your own Pick Up Stick using  Stampin’ Up! adhesive:  Multipurpose Liquid Glue (or as some refer to the green lid glue).

Have you ever stopped to consider the name… “Multipurpose”?  Why is it called that?  Something I think we may forget in our everyday crafting tasks – this wonderfully, useful adhesive is a 2-way glue!  Use it wet and it dries permanently.  Apply it and allow it to set/dry for a while and it becomes repositionable  and can be used for several purposes.  Sometimes I use this temporary bond to hold close a flap or enclosure I want others to be able to open and close (similar to velcro).  Or to make a custom post-it note.

Watermarked1(2018-07-24-1054)

You only need 2 items to make this tool.  Your Multipurpose Liquid Glue (item number 110755, $4) and a stick of your choice.  I used a skewer I found in my kitchen and cut it to the size I found works well in my hands (approx. 5 inches).  You could use the end of a Qtip (after you have removed the cotton) or even a tooth pick (I would cut one pointy end flat across).  I have even considered using the back end of my piercing tool as I always have it handy; however, I use that rounded end for adding dimension to punched/cut flowers and such so I don’t really want it to be tacky.

To make the tool:

  1. Hold the skewer (or stick of choice) so that flat end is up.
  2. Add a drop of glue to the flat end and allow it to dry until it is firmly set and tacky.  (I let mine sit overnight)  I have a scrap of an old piercing mat that I keep on my desk which holds my piercing tool at the ready.  I also use it to stick sewing needles if I’m sewing on a card.  And now it also holds this handy tool.  It keeps the tip free of lint by standing upright and not rolling around in a drawer.

To use your new tool:

NOTE: Usually the first time I use it, I find it a bit to grabby.  So, I simply touch my finger to it a few times to transfer some oils off my hand and then it is ready to go.

  1. Add a small dot of glue where you wish to place your embellishment onto your project.
  2. Touch the tacky tip of your tool (say that three times fast…) to your embellishment (such as a sequin, small die cut, bead, etc) to pick it up
  3. And place it right where you want it to go, onto the dot of glue.  If your tool newly made and the grabbiness is strong you can use your piercing tool to nudge it to release.  Usually, the small dot of glue it is enough to grab the item off my tool.

I have found that after a couple of weeks (depending on how much it has been used), I need to freshen it up.  I simply wipe as much of the tip off as possible and apply another drop of glue.  Let it sit a bit (or overnight) and wallah! Grabbiness is back.

So, there you go,  your DIY Pick Up Stick!  I hope it helps you get those pretty bits of bling where you want them to be.  Yes, I know you can buy a premade tool that will accomplish the same task at the store.  I used to have one.  I think it was around $7-10 way back when.  It had blue putty in the end and I found as it got older the putty would come off onto my embellishments.  It went into the garbage.  Why would I spend another $7+ on a tool when I have everything I already need to make my own.  I can buy some new embellishments with the money I save.  LOL!

Hope you have a happy stampin’ kind of day!

Plain or with Pizzazz? (MIY Monday #3)

Today I wanted to show you how pretty a card can be simply using stamps, ink and paper!  It truly doesn’t take a lot of materials (or time) to make something special.  Additionally, I show you how adding just a couple of embellishments you can really make your project pop!

I was inspired, yet again, from the catalog (page 176).  These colors are so soft and elegant I was drawn to them.

The card came together very quickly using just a basic tool kit.  Here is a step by step video showing you how I did it.

Thanks with Varied Vases (MIY #2)

Today’s Make it Yourself Monday card was inspired by artwork in the catalog!  I love the bright and cheery colors of the ‘Hello’ card found on page 45 and was inspired to make my own version using the supplies I already own.

The catalog is an excellent resource for inspiration, whether you are looking for color inspiration, card design or just trying to find other ways to use the supplies you have.

I love the color palette in the original card in the catalog.  That was one element I knew I wanted to copy!

I don’t have the textured impressions folder that was used in the inspiration card and I really wanted to use a different card design so this is where I began to stray.  But that is OKAY!!!

For you visual learners, I have created a step by step video.  It isn’t a fast frame like last weeks.  I’m trying to decide which I prefer.  Feel free to let me know your preference.

If you are interested in making one for yourself (and I think you definitely should!) then click the following link for the printable project sheet.  Remember, you can shop for any needed supplies on my website (store link is above or you can click on the products in the list below to be taken directly there.  Also note that, Varied Vases and the Vase Builder Punch can be purchased together in a bundle for a 10% savings, or individually if you prefer one without the other.

Paper Pumpkin

Broadway Star (Paper Pumpkin)

06.18_PP_KitContents

The Paper Pumpkin kit was a REAL treat this month!  We were given a small tip that it would coordinate with one of the new product suites that was just released in the 2018-2019 Annual Catalog, Broadway Birthday, which is a gorgeous, glitzy collection perfect for birthdays of all ages (male and female).  I was so excited!

It did not disappoint!

Right out of the box, the projects that were designed by SU! with this kit create two different birthday cards (4 of each) in bright, cheery colors.  There is an exclusive twine for embellishing as well (black/gold) which is a real treat.

IMG_0692

IMG_0694

So fun and easy to make.  I didn’t follow the directions EXACTLY! I mostly just used the photo to guide me.  Because they have done most of the work, it is really easy to do!

I have realized that I craft in the same style I cook, which really makes me laugh!  I love to cook (and bake) but I have a terrible time following recipes.  I don’t measure exactly (most of the time), and I freely make substitutions of ingredients (especially if I have something I am trying to use up).  So, usually when my family comes home and asks “What’s for dinner?”, my reply is usually something like “something similar to…” or “a version of…”.  Sometimes it results in success (sometimes not!).  My family is so sweet and gracious to me that they never complain (well, mostly never!).

The stamp set will be a valuable addition to my collection as it contains some great celebratory sentiments, beyond birthdays.

06.18_PP_STAMPARTWORK

I created some alternate projects as well.  These were inspired by the Paper Pumpkin design team.  They always show additional variations for the kit contents.  Which I think is a FABULOUS idea!  Usually I do switch up a few of the projects.  This month, because it coordinates with the new Broadway Birthday Suite, I also included some products from the suite.

IMG_0690

I’m always in need of gift card holders.  This card style design is my go-to as it is so easy to send in the mail and does double duty acting as the birthday card AND gift holder.  Smart!  Shown in the above photo with the “WISH” die cut, you can see all I did was add a Lovely Lipstick card base, cut one of the included lime card bases in half.  I used the pattern half to decorate the panels, and the back, white half to line the card base to allow a writing space inside my card.  The gift card slides right in to the pocket on the left and the cake (which is popped up on dimensionals) holds the flap closed.

IMG_0688

I really enjoy receiving my kit every month!  Local friends should check my calendar and to my Paper Pumpkin Party each month.  We gather, and put our kits together, have some snacks and fun fellowship.  I always have some supplies on hand for those that want to create an alternate project or two.  And, if you are not yet a subscriber, but have been thinking about it, stop by!  I try to have extras on hand to sample and encourage my guests to bring friends.  It’s very casual and fun!

Those are are not close enough to attend, don’t worry!  You won’t be left out of the fun.  I will send my subscribers who live out of town the same project packets with instructions so you can create your own alternate projects too.  Just drop me a line and let me know you would like it!

Thanks for stopping by today!  Have a beautiful day and remember to make something pretty!

The Journey Begins

Welcome to my new paper crafting website.  This hobby has been my favorite of mine for many years.  I have made hundreds (if not thousands) of cards to send to loved ones, donate to charities and to give as gifts.  I have learned how to take my products and create home decor, gift packaging and works of the heart for many to enjoy.  As my children are now older, I find myself in a new season of life with a new energy to expand my hobby into a resource which enables others to discover the rewarding benefits this creative outlet has to offer.   Please be patient as I build content.  I have a very large vision for this website, but I know it will take time and I hope you stick with me and visit often.  I welcome requests for tutorials, product tips, techniques, etc.  I hope this website will be a complete and convenient resource for new and seasoned crafters alike.  Thanks for joining me in my journey! We are going to have a FABULOUS time!

Good company in a journey makes the way seem shorter. — Izaak Walton

What about that name, you ask?  You see I have been a city/suburb girl all my life but when I married my husband we had this dream to one day own a country home, with a big front porch and a few acres of peace and beauty where we can grow old (one someday run “Grandma Camp”).  Two years ago we realized that dream and we began our transition into the country (which is really just on the fringe of the suburb we used to live in).   As our children continue to grow and leave the nest we decided to expand our little family.  We now have a lively Golden, named Rosie, and 10 adorably active chicks that entertain us on a daily basis.  They are now part of our family and will likely creep into my posts, as they do love attention and they are quite photogenic!  We love to have fun on our little growing farm.

Stamping 101

Lesson 2: Find Your Niche

There are so many options when it comes to WHEN and WHERE you paper craft.  As I said before, it truly is a craft for ANYONE!  I have heard people say “I can’t be a stamper because…  1.I don’t have time to go to classes, 2. I don’t have the money to invest in all the needed supplies 3.  I’m not artistic enough, etc.  But, if you give me a chance, I will show you how false those statements are!  Below are just SOME of the opportunities I have for my customers:

LOCAL options

Papercrafting is a wonderful social hobby.  Getting together with friends to create is both fun and stress-relieving.  I offer a variety of classes for my local customers to choose from.  You can always check my calendar for class offerings and details. Most classes cost $10-15 (or FREE with a qualifying product purchase), take approx. 2 hours and most of the time all supplies are provided for you (read class descriptions to see if you need your own adhesive or tool kit)!

Now, if you prefer to stamp in the comfort of your own home, with a few friends, I can provide materials and instruction for that as well (and you can earn Host Rewards).  Perfect for Girls Night Out activity, showers, birthdays, etc. these custom classes are also great because they can be tailored to your specific needs and wants.  I’m happy to tell you more about any of these opportunities.  Contact me anytime!

ONLINE options

For those not located in the Shelby County area, or with time limitations that make it difficult to come to a class in my home, consider  my Stamp of the Month Club.  As the name suggests, each month I will choose a Stamp of the Month to design a class around and post the details the last week of the month.  There is no ongoing commitment, you can choose to participate however often you like, every month or once a year.   There are a variety of purchase options that allow you to tailor the class to meet your specific needs.   This is a great way to grow your stamp collection and sample various embellishments and decide whether or not you would like to order full packs, rolls, etc.

Additionally, I post free tutorials regularly on my blog.  Most of these tutorials come with a supply list, which contains direct links where you can order the needed supplies or compare to what you already have on hand to recreate at your convenience. When making your purchases online, I recommend you read about my Stampers with Benefits club which awards perks and/or free products for purchases over $25.  I appreciate all of my customers.  Your interest in my classes and your support by shopping with me allows me to continue doing what I love to do! and I enjoy being able to reward you for your patronage.

Classes and Clubs are a fun opportunities to learn techniques, try new products and build up your inventory of available cards to use as you need them.  Whether you gather in large groups, with a few friends or even tuck yourself into a quiet place and craft alone, you can find happiness and joy in this craft – in the making, in the giving and even in the receiving!!

In the next lesson we will explore another option to help jump start your creativity, learn some new techniques and discover an economical way to sample a variety of products with Stampin’ Up’s All-Inclusive kits!  Whether you are trying to fit this hobby into a busy schedule, or simply want something you can make with minimal prep time or even something you can easily take along with you for crafting on the go, kits are fun to make and fun to share!  Follow me to Lesson 3: Exploring SU! Kits.
