Get Organized – Tackling Paper Pumpkin Stamp set organization

Today I wanted to share with you how I have been storing my Paper Pumpkin Stamp sets.  Those mini sets are great! But, what to do with them when you finish your kit?  There are so many great sentiments and images but it is easy to loose track of what you have and if you aren’t keeping track of them, if they are not organized, then you probably aren’t using them!

Watermarked1(2018-09-29-0731)

I decided I wanted something that could sit on my stamp shelf and had easy access for me to be able to thumb through and quickly glance at the stamps to see which I want to use.  I have prepared a video tutorial to show you how to make my stamp file box.  It only uses a few products and holds one years worth of Paper Pumpkin Stamp Sets.

If you are new to my website, or Stampin’ Up! and don’t know what I am talking about when I refer to Paper Pumpkin?? then you should definitely go read learn more about this fabulous monthly subscription kit HERE!

Watermarked3(2018-09-29-0732)

Another use for this box would be to organize and store your handmade cards!  Keep those beautiful creations safely stored until they are ready to be signed and sent away!  All of the products used in this project can be purchased from my online shop.

Additional Tip:  Of all the months I have been a member of the Paper Pumpkin Club there has only been one stamp set (Manly Moments, May 2018) which was too long to fit inside the clear envelope.  My solution was to cut the stamp set in half, acetate sheets and all, and put one half on one side of the whisper white cardstock and the other half on the back side.  It works just fine!  I forgot to point this out in my video.  Sorry!

Watermarked2(2018-09-29-0731)

Thanks for watching today.  Let me know if you make your own and share with me how you chose to decorate yours.  I kept my simple but I know some of you will really make yours spectacular and I would love to see them!  Share your photos with me on facebook.

Have a blessed day and happy stampin’!

Lesson 3: Exploring SU! Kits

Now that we have discussed the 3 essentials to stamping AND explained the necessities of a basic tool kit, I am going to contradict myself for a moment and say,

It is possible to create with less than the necessities!

{GASP}

Yes, it is true!  How, you ask? My answer is…. SU! All-Inclusive Kits!!

Stampin’ Up! does an amazing job of planning for every type of crafter and creating opportunities to make stamping and papercrafting  possible for everyone!

SU! All-Inclusive Kits are the perfect solution for those that are looking for a way to get started with the least amount of investment.  You will find several options of these kits in the current Annual Catalog (pages 6-10).  I will feature 2 of them today today that I feel are great starter kits for card makers.  One makes a gorgeous collection of cards for just about every need a card giver may have and one features a technique that is very on trend in the paper crafting world.

What makes these kits so great?  Well, they arrive in a cute giftable box (meaning it can be used once you have completed the kit to package a present in) and you receive almost everything you need inside that box, including an exclusive stamp set, ink, block, and pre-cut and scored paper pieces plus embellishments to complete 20 cards!  Refills for each kit are also available allowing you to get more bang for your buck!  The only items you would need to have on hand to complete the projects are adhesives and something to clean your stamps, The Simply Shammy is perfect for kits because it also fits in the box making kits very transportable and perfect for on-the-go stampers!  Watch and enjoy!

Are kits just for beginners?  Of course not!  Because they are so transportable, they are the perfect solution for those that wish to take a craft project on holidays with them or even to complete while sitting at the ballfields during your little one’s batting practice.  Because much of the prep work has been thought through and completed for you, it is so easy just to toss in your Simply Shammy and a few adhesives and go.  Plus, they are sharable!  Quality time made fun when you sit with a friend or loved one and complete these projects together!  Even the most experienced cardmakers can take the bits and pieces provided in these kits and pair them with supplies they already have to create their own works of art.  There are just no limits!

In addition to the kits you will find in the annual catalog (and don’t forget to check the seasonal catalogs as well, SU! includes seasonal kits in those publications), we also have Paper Pumpkin!

Paper Pumpkin is a monthly subscription kit that is delivered to your mailbox, fully equipped and ready for a crafting escape.  There is no commitment necessary with this subscription and you can choose to skip the month if you wish or even up your subscription to more than one kit if you have someone in mind you want to share it with (maybe your mother is coming to town, or a grandchild and you want to have something available for a rainy day activity).  The contents are always a surprise but the kits are always seasonally appropriate.  Pre-purchased gift subscriptions are also available.  You can read more about Paper Pumpkin and how to subscribe HERE.

Watch me unwrap and put together a project from one of my latest Paper Pumpkin kits.

While I think Kits are a great way to get your feet wet, supplement your hobby with fun new projects and ideas and/or provide a source for quick and easy crafting, who wants to stay in a bubble?  Let’s move on to the next lesson and learn how to draw from inspiration to create a card of our own.

The Holiday Catalog has arrived!

It may be hard to believe the the Holiday season is just around the corner, especially if you live in the south like me and are still sweating out mid 90 degree temperatures on most days.  However, it is time to think beyond summer and prepare for the best paper crafting season of the year!!!

I have a struggled to come up with a “Stamp of the Month” to feature for my classes because there are so many I love, so I finally realized why limit myself to ONE stamp of the month?  Maybe there are others who love more than one set too!  LOL!  So throughout the holiday season you may see multiple classes offered on my Stamp of the Month page.  Pick any or all of the ones that interest you, just be aware that they may sell out so make sure you sign up before the class kits are gone!

This holiday catalog is packed with so much variety it will knock your socks off.  I typically lean toward traditional Christmas cards but I LOVE the Joyous Noel suite (pg 28-29) which contains a trendy color palette with accents of copper as well as the fun and whimsical Santa’s Workshop suite (pg 18-19).  So you may just see it all this year!  Watch for technique classes featuring the Great Joy (page 22) stamp set (no line watercoloring) as well as stained glass technique carried over from the Holiday catalog with the new Illuminated Christmas set (pg 14).  There are just so many possibilities!  And, that is just Christmas, I have much to offer before we even get to those.

We will kick of the holiday catalog with classes incorporating the Country Lane Suite and Falling for Leaves bundle.  Watch next week for those to be announced.

If you haven’t seen the new Holiday Catalog yet, you can view it online HERE or, better yet, contact me today to get your FREE hard copy!

Happy Stamping!

Tuesday Tip: DIY Pick Up Stick

Sometimes in paper crafting adding the smallest bits of bling can make all the difference to finish off a project.  However, getting them to cooperate may some times be a bit fussy!

Today I want to share a tip on how you can make your own Pick Up Stick using  Stampin’ Up! adhesive:  Multipurpose Liquid Glue (or as some refer to the green lid glue).

Have you ever stopped to consider the name… “Multipurpose”?  Why is it called that?  Something I think we may forget in our everyday crafting tasks – this wonderfully, useful adhesive is a 2-way glue!  Use it wet and it dries permanently.  Apply it and allow it to set/dry for a while and it becomes repositionable  and can be used for several purposes.  Sometimes I use this temporary bond to hold close a flap or enclosure I want others to be able to open and close (similar to velcro).  Or to make a custom post-it note.

Watermarked1(2018-07-24-1054)

You only need 2 items to make this tool.  Your Multipurpose Liquid Glue (item number 110755, $4) and a stick of your choice.  I used a skewer I found in my kitchen and cut it to the size I found works well in my hands (approx. 5 inches).  You could use the end of a Qtip (after you have removed the cotton) or even a tooth pick (I would cut one pointy end flat across).  I have even considered using the back end of my piercing tool as I always have it handy; however, I use that rounded end for adding dimension to punched/cut flowers and such so I don’t really want it to be tacky.

To make the tool:

  1. Hold the skewer (or stick of choice) so that flat end is up.
  2. Add a drop of glue to the flat end and allow it to dry until it is firmly set and tacky.  (I let mine sit overnight)  I have a scrap of an old piercing mat that I keep on my desk which holds my piercing tool at the ready.  I also use it to stick sewing needles if I’m sewing on a card.  And now it also holds this handy tool.  It keeps the tip free of lint by standing upright and not rolling around in a drawer.

To use your new tool:

NOTE: Usually the first time I use it, I find it a bit to grabby.  So, I simply touch my finger to it a few times to transfer some oils off my hand and then it is ready to go.

  1. Add a small dot of glue where you wish to place your embellishment onto your project.
  2. Touch the tacky tip of your tool (say that three times fast…) to your embellishment (such as a sequin, small die cut, bead, etc) to pick it up
  3. And place it right where you want it to go, onto the dot of glue.  If your tool newly made and the grabbiness is strong you can use your piercing tool to nudge it to release.  Usually, the small dot of glue it is enough to grab the item off my tool.

I have found that after a couple of weeks (depending on how much it has been used), I need to freshen it up.  I simply wipe as much of the tip off as possible and apply another drop of glue.  Let it sit a bit (or overnight) and wallah! Grabbiness is back.

So, there you go,  your DIY Pick Up Stick!  I hope it helps you get those pretty bits of bling where you want them to be.  Yes, I know you can buy a premade tool that will accomplish the same task at the store.  I used to have one.  I think it was around $7-10 way back when.  It had blue putty in the end and I found as it got older the putty would come off onto my embellishments.  It went into the garbage.  Why would I spend another $7+ on a tool when I have everything I already need to make my own.  I can buy some new embellishments with the money I save.  LOL!

Hope you have a happy stampin’ kind of day!

Plain or with Pizzazz? (MIY Monday #3)

Today I wanted to show you how pretty a card can be simply using stamps, ink and paper!  It truly doesn’t take a lot of materials (or time) to make something special.  Additionally, I show you how adding just a couple of embellishments you can really make your project pop!

IMG_2890

I was inspired, yet again, from the catalog (page 176).  These colors are so soft and elegant I was drawn to them.

The card came together very quickly using just a basic tool kit.  Here is a step by step video showing you how I did it.

If you prefer to print this tutorial out click on the TAMS# link for a printable version.  Remember all the supplies can be ordered directly at my online store (directly linked) and you can earn perks if you order using the current Host Code (or click to learn more about my Stampers with Benefit club.  I thank you for checking in today and hope you will come back to visit again soon!
